Religious Education

Our Curriculum Intent

At The Oratory, our mission is to "Shine as to be a Light to Others", and this guides everything we do — especially through our Religious Education lessons. Through two lessons each week, our RE curriculum aims to nurture each child’s faith journey, helping them to grow in knowledge; love, and understanding of God, and encouraging them to live out the Gospel values in their daily lives.

Our Curriculum Implementation

We follow the Learning and Growing as the People of God strategy (provided by the Archdiocese of Birmingham) which forms the foundation of our RE teaching. This provides a rich and engaging curriculum that supports children in deepening their relationship with God and understanding their place within the Church and wider community. Alongside this, we regularly make connections to Catholic Social Teaching and the Jesuit Virtues, helping children reflect on how they can live out their faith through action, compassion, and service to others — truly shining their light in the world.

In addition to the diocesan strategy we have dedicated themed weeks for example a multi faith week which seeks to support the children in learning about other faiths through research and visiting places of worship.
