Year 5

Welcome

Welcome to Year 5! Your child will be taught by Mr. O’Rourke, Miss Sayid and Mrs Basit this year. In Upper Key Stage 2, children are encouraged to become more independent in their learning as they continue to explore the National Curriculum in greater depth.

With a strong focus on developing reading fluency and comprehension, as well as more complex mathematical reasoning, Year 5 is a great opportunity for children to grow in confidence. Continuing reading and times tables practice at home can really boost their learning. We’re excited for a fantastic and enriching year ahead!

Our Class Saint: St. Pier Giorgio Frassati

Our Class Saint is St. Giorgio Frassati. He was a joyful young man who loved helping the poor and stood up for his faith. He is the patron saint of young people and those who love the outdoors. His feast day is 4th July, and his life teaches us the Catholic Social Teaching of ‘Option for the Poor and Vulnerable’ by showing how we can serve others with generosity and kindness.

What will my child be learning in Year 5?

PE Days

PE days in Year 5 are on Thursday. Please make sure your child is in the correct uniform on these days.

During the Spring term, Year 5 will be having swimming lessons at Ladywood Swimming Baths. It is important for children to develop confidence in the water, as a key expectation is that by the end of Year 6 they should be able to swim 25 metres.
