Year 6

Welcome

Welcome to Year 6! This important final year of primary school will be led by Mrs Pickup and Mrs Ali. Year 6 is a time of challenge, growth, and preparation for secondary school. Children will engage with the National Curriculum at a deeper level, developing key skills in Maths, English, Science, and a wide range of foundation subjects.

As part of their journey, children will sit the end of Key Stage 2 SATs in the Summer term. Regular reading and revision of times tables and key arithmetic skills at home will be a great help in building confidence and readiness. We’re proud to support our Year 6 pupils as they prepare for the next exciting chapter of their education!

Our Class Saint: St Josephine Bakhita

Our Class Saint is St. Josephine Bakhita. She showed incredible faith and forgiveness after a life of hardship and became a symbol of hope and freedom. She is the patron saint of victims of slavery and human trafficking. Her feast day is 8th February, and her life teaches us the Catholic Social Teaching of ‘Life and Dignity of the Human Person’ by reminding us that every person deserves respect and freedom.

What will my child be learning in Year 6?

PE Days

PE days in Year 6 are on Wednesday. Please make sure your child is in the correct uniform on these days.

During the Autumn term and Summer 2, Year 6 will be having swimming lessons at Ladywood Swimming Baths. It is important for children to develop confidence in the water, as a key expectation is that by the end of Year 6 they should be able to swim 25 metres.
