Physical Education (PE)
Our Mission Statement and Curriculum Drivers
Our PE curriculum is designed to meet the National Curriculum’s goals of developing competence, confidence, and character through physical activity. At The Oratory, children take part in a wide range of sports and activities that promote teamwork, resilience, and fair play. Pupils learn to support one another, celebrate effort, and strive for their personal best — truly living our mission to "Shine as to be a Light to Others" both on and off the field.

Our Curriculum Intent
At The Oratory, our PE curriculum follows the National Curriculum and aims to develop pupils’ physical competence, confidence, and enjoyment of physical activity. We are proud to have achieved Gold standard in the School Games for the last two years, reflecting our commitment to high-quality provision and competitive opportunities.
Every child experiences at least two hours of Physical Education each week, ensuring a broad and balanced curriculum that promotes fitness, skill development, and teamwork. In addition, we ensure that every child in Key Stage 2 participates in a disability sport, promoting awareness, inclusion, and respect for diversity: values rooted in Catholic Social Teaching principles of Solidarity and Dignity of the Human Person.
The sports chosen each half term reflect the cultural capital of what is happening in the sporting world around them, helping children connect their learning to real-life experiences and global events.
Our Curriculum Implementation
Extra Curricular Provision
At The Oratory, we offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities to enrich children’s experiences and promote active, healthy lifestyles. At lunchtime, pupils can enjoy structured sports led by our trained Play Leaders, encouraging teamwork and physical activity. For those who have signed up, we provide a free Before School Multi-Sports Club every day from 7:30am, giving children an energetic start to their day.
Our after-school clubs are also free of charge and include exciting opportunities such as:
- Monday: Laser Tag
- Tuesday: Martial Arts
- Thursday: KS1 Mini Trampolining
These activities help children develop confidence, resilience, and a love of sport, while fostering inclusion and community spirit.
